Severe thunderstorms possible on Saturday night

Severe thunderstorms will be possible Saturday afternoon and Saturday night, especially west of Highway 17 on mainland North Carolina, per a recent update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.

Damaging wind gusts and the possibility of an isolated tornado are the main threats and are possible from 3:00 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday. Severe weather is less likely for the N.C. coast, including Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands, however, weather conditions could impact travel.
