Severe weather possible for the Outer Banks on Friday
Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are forecast to develop on Friday afternoon and linger into the evening, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City Office.
The storms will be slow-moving, so heavy rain and minor flooding may be possible, especially in low-lying areas. Frequent lightning and damaging winds may also occur during the storms.
Any severe weather threat should end by late evening, however, scattered storms are forecast again for Saturday. There will be a return to hot, humid, but dry conditions during the latter half of the weekend, and into the beginning of next week. A stronger frontal system may bring additional substantial rain by mid-week.
