Tornado Watch issued for the Outer Banks until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday
A Tornado Watch has been issued for six counties within the eastern North Carolina region, including the Outer Banks, until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, per an update from the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport/Morehead City office.
The NWS advises all residents and visitors to ensure that they have multiple ways to receive warnings throughout the afternoon and evening. This includes the NWS website at www.weather.gov/mhx, broadcast media, NOAA Weather Radio, and/or access to a cell phone and social media.
All of eastern North Carolina could see damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph from severe thunderstorms on Wednesday, with the highest threat of isolated tornadoes occurring along and north of the Pamlico River.
