Hatteras Island Ocean Center announces logo competition

The Hatteras Island Ocean Center is looking for a new logo and needs your help.

Ocean Center Economic Development Director Liz Browning Fox explains: “Now that we are coming out of our start-up phase and have the time to do it right, we want a logo that truly represents the Ocean Center and is as unique as Hatteras Island. We have so many great artists who live in our area and many others who feel at home on our Island—we are confident that we are going to get stunning entries. The difficult part will be choosing the winner, but we think we have a good plan for that, too.”

The winning design will potentially be viewed by millions over the coming years and is likely to find its way onto hats, T-shirts, hundreds of websites, signs, and countless other places.

Entering the contest is simple. E-mail your design as an attachment, in JPG format, to [email protected]. Resolution should be 300 DPI and size should be no larger than 1,800 pixels square. Designers are reminded that this logo has to look good in all sizes—from an icon on a computer screen to part of a mural on the side of building. Please provide your name, e-mail address, phone number, and age. Up to three entries by the same designer are permitted. Entries must be sent by 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sunday, Sept. 30. E-mail any questions to [email protected].

Designs will be reviewed by a panel of marketing professionals and the top selections will be presented online to the public for voting. The Ocean Center board will review the results and choose the winner.

The fine print:

  • All entries become the property of Hatteras Island Ocean Center, Inc. (HIOC) and the designer assigns all rights to HIOC. If the winning logo is submitted by a designer not of sufficient legal age to enter into a contract, then their parent or legal guardian will be contacted so that the needed permissions can be granted.
  • All entries should be original and not derived from existing logos or other trademarked or copyrighted material.
  • There are no prizes or compensation associated with this competition, but winning will make loved ones proud and look good on a resume.
  • HIOC, in its sole discretion, reserves the right not to select a winner and to disqualify any designer or entry.
