Community Day Celebrating the Imminent Opening of New Bridge Set for February 9
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) in conjunction with Dare County recently announced a Community Day celebration of the imminent opening of the Bonner Bridge replacement.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, at the north end of the bridge, and following brief remarks, the bridge will open to the public for pedestrian and bicycle access until 4 p.m.
Parking for the event will be available at the parking lot adjacent to the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, and the event is free and open to the public.
At 11 a.m. there will be a special blessing of thankfulness for the bridge and laying a wreath in Oregon Inlet to honor the close connection between the people of the Outer Bank and the inlet.
Scooters, skateboards and roller blades will not be allowed on the bridge for safety.
Due to an acceleration of work, the new bridge is slated to open to vehicle traffic as early as Mid-February, per a recent update from the NCDOT.
