WilliamU. Packer Jr. died at home Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, surrounded by thefamily and friends he cherished. Billy, as he was best known, wasthe son of the late William and Bernice Packer of California. Hisbrother Raymond Langlois also preceded Billy in death.
Billyserved his country honorably in the United States Navy during theVietnam War Era. After his military service, Billy began a long andsuccessful career as a long-distance truck driver. His workeventually brought him to the Outer Banks where he met the love of hislife, Gail. He never left and the couple went on to raise theirfamily in Buxton. Billy will be remembered by those who knew him as asimple, fun-loving, family man.
SurvivingBilly Packer are his wife of 36 years, Gail Packer of the Buxtonresidence; two daughters, Alicia Packer and partner Thomas Corpening ofAvon, and Lindsey Packer and partner Will Smith of Frisco; twograndchildren, Deklan and Adele Corpening, also of Avon; one brother,David Packer of Bull Head, Ariz.,; two sisters, Darlene Bishop of Mesa,Ariz., and Nancy Anthony-Cheney of San Bernardino, Calif., and a hostof nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members and closefriends.
Thefamily will hold a memorial service on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m. atLighthouse Assembly of God Church in Buxton. Pastor DavidWaterfield will officiate. Memorial tributes in Billy’s memoryare gratefully welcomed at the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation and orInterfaith Community Outreach (ICO).
