AVON — Virginia O’Neal Scarborough, 86, died on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016at Sentara Nursing Center – Currituck. A native of Avon, she was thedaughter of the late Frank O’Neal and Ethel Williams O’Neal. Alife-long member of St. John United Methodist Church, Virginia heldseveral positions in the church, such as Sunday School teacher andchoir member. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women andAvon Fire Women’s Auxiliary.
Virginia is survived by a daughter, Janice Spake and husband, Arley, ofBuxton; two grandchildren, Gerald Carlander and fianc�, Heather Fox,and Dennis Spake; three great-grandchildren, Carolina Carlander, DanielSpake, and Kaleb Spake; and a sister, Audrey Farrow of Avon. Along withher parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph C.Scarborough, and three siblings, Roland O’Neal, John O’Neal, and RosePrice.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, at St. John UnitedMethodist Church with Rev. Gina Miller officiating. Burial will takeplace at the Scarborough Cemetery. The family will receive friends andrelatives at the home of Audrey Farrow, 40361 North End Road,Avon, from 2 until 6 p.m. on Thursday. The church will be openThursday afternoon and evening, as well as Friday morning forviewing.
