BUXTON– James L. (Gig) Gerhard, 77, died Thursday, April 9, 2015 at SentaraNorfolk General Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Shaun, ofthe home; two stepchildren, Beth Reilly of Wilton, Conn., and MichaelAllen (Euza) of Jacksonville, Fla., and three grandchildren, Julianne,Evan, and Emma Reilly.
Gig earned his undergraduate degree fromBridgewater College and his master’s in education from the Universityof Virginia. He spent his career teaching, coaching, and as anadministrator in Woodbridge, Va. He was past president of theLions Club of Aquia Harbour and a long-time member of the Cape HatterasAnglers Club. After retiring, he substituted, taught drivers education,and drove the activity bus at Cape Hatteras School.
A memorial service will held on Saturday, May 30, at 2 p.m. at the Old Lighthouse Site in Buxton.
