Coast Guard conducts active shooter training on board a North Carolina ferry
Personnel from Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet, the Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Enforcement Division, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) recently conducted a series of maritime active shooter training drills on Tuesday, March 3, while onboard a local N.C. ferry.
Per a press release from the U.S. Coast Guard, during the training, members of the Coast Guard practiced tactical procedures as well as appropriate methods to de-escalate a situation and reduce threats from an active shooter on a ferry.
In order to effectively neutralize an active shooter threat, Coast Guard personnel learned to practice limited movements around the ferry’s compact spaces, and also familiarized themselves with the close-quarters environment of the ferry in order to improve training movements.
Coast Guard trainers also conducted post-incident medical response training with NCDOT personnel, focused on triage and emergency life-saving procedures.
Per the U.S. Coast Guard, the exercises are designed to improve active shooter response protocols and interagency coordination for potential emergencies.
What an unbelievable waste of time.
