The North Carolina Coastal Federation has announced it will again present Coastal Stewardship Awards to high school seniors for their outstanding dedication to the coastal environment.
The federation is offering three, $1,000 awards coastwide. Awards are open to graduating high school seniors in North Carolina’s 20 coastal counties as defined by the state’s Coastal Area Management Act. The application deadline is Feb. 13. Chosen recipients are to be announced April 1. For additional details and to view the online application, visit nccoast.org/coastalaward.
“We are so glad we’re able to offer three awards again this year through support of local sponsors. We are continuously impressed by the students we work with, and are honored to invest in their future,” said Rachel Bisesi, coastal education coordinator for the federation.
The nonprofit membership organization with offices in Ocean, Wanchese and Wrightsville Beach works through a variety of programs and partnerships to protect coastal waters and habitats and inform people about the coast and what they can do to protect it. Its Coastal Stewardship Award was launched in 2019 and expanded in 2020.
The 2020 award recipients were Henry Ferrell from E.A. Laney High School, Ella Harlacher from Croatan High School and Dylan Gray from Cape Hatteras Secondary School.
