Severe Weather Possible Sunday Night into Monday Morning
A potent storm system is forecast to move through eastern North Carolina starting late Sunday night or early Monday morning, per a Thursday update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
The timing may change over the weekend, but residents and visitors are urged to be prepared for the possibility of damaging wind gusts, isolated tornadoes, and locally heavy downpours.
Sustained winds in the 25-30 mph range are currently forecast for Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands late Sunday and early Monday morning.
