St. John UMC in Avon will host Christmas Eve Outdoor Live Nativity
For the second year in a row, the St. John United Methodist Church (UMC) in Avon will host a Christmas Eve Outdoor Live Nativity and Candlelight Service, which is a decades-old tradition for the Avon church, with a slightly new setting.
“Since the church began in the 1800s, they held a Christmas Eve pageant,” said Pastor Gina Miller of St. John UMC. “But due to COVID last year, we moved it outside as a live nativity… It was hugely successful, so we decided to do it again because of the [ongoing] pandemic.”
Local residents of all ages provide the nativity scene, and the roughly hour-long event will feature music and glowsticks as opposed to the traditional candlesticks, as “candles just do not withstand our wind!”
The event is free and open to the public, and more information can be found on the church’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/stjohnobx/.
