OBX Room in The Inn (RITI), Dare County’s only homeless shelter, reopened today for its sixteenth season. Serving the Dare County community since 2009, RITI is open to those who are in need of immediate or short-term shelter.
Shari Fiveash, RITI’s President & CEO, commented about today’s opening, the shelter’s significant work within the Dare County community, and its guests, “We at OBX Room In the Inn are incredibly proud of the role we play in Dare County serving members of our community who – for a number of reasons – find themselves without housing. Our guests may need us for one or two nights, or they may need to avail themselves of social services and stay with us for a while. No matter the need, we work hard to help our guests and keep them safe and well. I’m happy to say that each season the majority of our guests reach the point where they are able to secure work, but sadly no housing.”
Ms. Fiveash continued, “Unfortunately, we are currently unable to remain open year-round due to the fact that we rent a facility that is in use during the summer months. After sixteen seasons, we have learned too well that homelessness never takes a day off. We are working hard to ensure that this problem will be rectified. We pray that with the help of the community, our dream of a year-round shelter is within arm’s reach.”
As may be necessary, Room In The Inn’s guests are provided with access to available community resources and assistance. They receive three meals each day, clothing, and the fellowship of those who truly care for their health and well-being.
Donations are always most welcome and may be made through RITI’s donation site https://givebutter.com/dS5tB
