Songs From The Road Band concert to benefit Hatteras Island Meals
A fundraising concert will be held on Friday, November 29, at the Hatteras Village Civic Center featuring the award-winning Songs From The Road Band, with proceeds to benefit Hatteras Island Meals (HIM) and Samaritan’s Purse for Western North Carolina.
This is the second year in a row that the Songs From The Road Band has hosted a Hatteras Island charity concert, thanks to the efforts of Steve Jones at Tavern on 12, with help from HIM.
Based in Asheville, NC, Songs From The Road Band is a nationally recognized bluegrass supergroup featuring Mark Schimick (mandolin), Charles Humphrey III (bass), Sam Wharton (guitar), James Schlender (fiddle), and Gabe Epstein (banjo). The band takes flight with virtuosic picking, singing, and Grammy-award-winning songwriting.
Several of their most recent singles have gone to the top of the Bluegrass Today Grassicana chart, and they have six studio albums under their belt.
The Hatteras-based event is from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, and 250 total tickets will be sold at $35 each.
Tickets are available through PayPal via the QR code above or by visiting https://hatterasislandmeals.org/. (Click on “Make a Donation,” enter the multiple of $35.00 that corresponds to the tickets you’d like, and put “tickets” in the comment section.)
Tavern on 12 will provide a buffet, which is included in the ticket price, and all proceeds will benefit Hatteras Island Meals (HIM) and Samaritan’s Purse for western North Carolina.
“Last year’s event was a great success and so much fun for everyone. The band enjoyed themselves as well as all those who attended from the community,” stated HIM in an update. “We so appreciate Tavern on 12 and the Songs From The Road Band for supporting Hatteras Island Meals.”
HIM is a longstanding and all-volunteer organization on Hatteras Island that provides nutritious meals to elderly or homebound island residents. The nonprofit began in 1987 as an informal endeavor – where locals prepared meals for their neighbors – and today it has grown to include around 60 volunteers and approximately 60 clients from Rodanthe to Hatteras village. They are on target to deliver 11,700 meals by the end of 2024.
