Continuing a wave of recent donations to local organizations, the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association (NCBBA) recently made $500 donations to the Buxton Volunteer Fire Department, the Frisco Volunteer Fire Department, Radio Hatteras, and Cape Hatteras United Methodist Men.
About the organizations
- Hatteras Island’s seven villages are served by six all-volunteer fire departments that respond to all types of emergencies, assist with post-storm recovery operations, and host additional community programs throughout the year.
- Radio Hatteras is a 501(c)3 all-volunteer community radio station supported solely by donations, with a mission to provide island-specific broadcast radio communications that enhance the safety and quality of life of Hatteras Island residents, visitors, and property owners.
- The Cape Hatteras United Methodist Men (CHUMM) is an ecumenical group of men and women volunteers from all walks of faith, bonded together with the sole purpose of providing compassionate assistance to those most in need on Hatteras Island. CHUMM also works hand-in-hand with other organizations and volunteers to provide early response to storm and flood victims, and is celebrating its 47th year of service in 2025.
About NCBBA
The NCBBA is a non-profit organization established in 1964 that is dedicated to the preservation of, and vehicular access to, the natural beach resources of the Outer Banks through conservation, a code of ethics for beach behavior, and by supporting local, state, federal officials, and other organizations dedicated to these same goals.
In addition to donations, NCBBA also holds multiple Adopt-A-Highway and Operation Beach Respect events throughout the year, which are initiatives that aim to clean the Hatteras Island beaches, as well as a stretch of N.C. Highway near the Marc Basnight Bridge.
