After being canceled in 2021 and 2022 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the North Carolina Coastal Federation (NCCF) will once again be hosting its annual Hatteras Island Oyster Roast in 2023, which is a popular February fundraising event that celebrates local seafood along the waterfront of Hatteras village.

Tickets are now on sale for the Hatteras Island Oyster Roast and can be purchased via the NCCF website here.

On Saturday afternoon, February 4, the public is invited to warm up around the fire at Oden’s Dock for the old-fashioned oyster roast, which also helps to give back to the local coastal environment of the Outer Banks.

Attendees will be treated to fresh oysters, seafood chowder, cornbread, and other refreshments, as well as homemade desserts from the on-site bake sale.

Throughout the afternoon, hungry attendees will also enjoy live music from Hatteras Island’s own Carolina Sweaters, and good company among federation staff, board members, and volunteers. The laid-back event will also include a silent auction that features items from local artisans, unique regional goodies, and much more.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the North Carolina Coastal Federation’s oyster education and restoration programs.

Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door, although in the past, the oyster roast has sold out well before the February event date.

To enhance the safety and enjoyment of the event, ticket sales are separated into different event entry times: 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The ticket price includes all-you-can-eat steamed oysters, one serving of chowder, cornbread, and a nonalcoholic beverage.

This event is planned to take place outdoors, rain or shine, so attendees are advised to dress accordingly. (In the case of extremely bad weather, the event location may change.)
