Janice Carol Johnson Bateman

MANTEO — Janice Carol Johnson Bateman, 82, of Manteo, NC, passed away suddenly on June 27, 2024. She was born on February 22, 1942, in Norfolk, VA, to the late Gladys Roberts Johnson and Floyd Johnson.
Janice, a loving mother and devoted grandmother, found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid fisherman who cherished family gatherings, especially while cooking Sunday dinners. A true Redskins fan, she enjoyed spending time playing rummy and indulging in bear and wildlife watching.
Janice is survived by her four children, Kenny Nelson (Joy), Debbie Nelson Covington (Tommy), Trina Simon, and Amy Nelson Moore (Allen); nineteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Robert Johnson (Linda), and James Johnson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Thelma Gummo, John Johnson, and Oscar Johnson.
A funeral service will be held at Still Waters Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service. A private burial will take place in Manteo Cemetery.
Janice will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on through the love she shared with her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
