MANTEO — Richard Carll DeSilver, born on November 5, 1937, in Chicago, IL, peacefully passed away on December 18, 2023, at his home in Manteo, NC, surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years old.
Richard led a fulfilling life, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of kindness. After graduating from the University of Connecticut, he served his country honorably in the United States Army. His dedication and service were truly admirable.
Throughout his career, Richard wore many hats. He was the proud owner of a record and electronics store, sharing his passion for music with the community. Later, he worked for The Coastland Times and as a Dare County Transportation System driver, always lending a helping hand wherever he could.
Richard had a thirst for knowledge and enjoyed immersing himself in local history. It was his love for the Outer Banks’ rich history and beautiful beaches that led him to make it his home. He was an avid outdoorsman, finding joy in activities like kayaking and mountain biking. A proud New York sports fan, Richard passionately supported his favorite teams.
Above all, Richard was a devoted family man. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aldana Sorensen Perez and Carll Harrison DeSilver; his first wife, Alice Keeler DeSilver; his brother, David DeSilver; and half-siblings, Toni and Lisa Perez. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of over 20 years, Lillian Adams DeSilver; his daughter, Amanda DeSilver; his son, Drew DeSilver (Lisa Lednicer); stepchildren, Abigail Fentress, Julie Gillman, and Sarah McDowell; granddaughter, Rachel DeSilver; five step-grandchildren; and half-siblings, Albert, Margaret, and Serena DeSilver.
