New Boardwalk and Viewing Platform in Hatteras Village Opens
The new ADA accessible boardwalk and viewing platform in Hatteras village is complete and open as of Friday morning, per the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
The boardwalk and platform is located next to the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum and ORV Ramp 55, and is similar to the one at the bathhouse south of Frisco. The boardwalk itself has a gradual incline with no hills, and leads directly to the beach, while the platform lets visitors catch a glimpse of the ocean without getting their toes in the sand.
The boardwalk and platform is part of a series of projects that are slated to be completed in 2018, and which includes a new parking area near South Beach, a renovated boat ramp in Ocracoke, and new facilities near the Hatteras and Ocracoke ferry docks which are being built in conjunction with the arrival of the passenger ferry.
