Cape Point Campground Temporarily Closes Due to Flooding
The Cape Point Campground in Buxton temporarily closed on Wednesday morning, July 25, due to flooding from days of heavy rains. Despite the flooding of the individual campsites, the road that cuts through the campground and which leads to the South Beach Parking Area is still open.
The Cape Point Campground will reopen to the public once the water recedes, although with additional rainfall in the forecast, there is currently not an exact timeframe of when this will occur.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the National Park Service campgrounds On Ocracoke Island, Bodie Island, and in Frisco remain open to the public, and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Bodie Island Lighthouse Visitors Centers are open as well.
Several programs offered by the Cape Hatteras National Seashore have also been cancelled for today, due to the bad weather. Visit https://www.facebook.com/CapeHatterasNS/ for more information.
