Educational programs at Cape Hatteras National Seashore extended through November 11
Seasonal educational programs at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore (CHNS) have been extended through November 11, 2023, per a recent announcement from CHNS.
These programs include special talks and presentations on unique aspects of the islands’ history, and all programs are free and open to the public.
Fall visitors can view the operating hours for CHNS Park Stores, Visitor Centers, and the Ocracoke Island Lighthouse Base at https://www.nps.gov/caha/planyourvisit/hours.htm

Bodie Island Educational Programs (through November 4)
The Bodie Island Lighthouse – Lighting the Way for 150 Years
- Dates: Mondays and Thursdays from 11-11:30 a.m.
- Location: Meet on the back porch of the Keeper’s Quarters
- Details: Discuss the details and history of this beautiful sentinel.
Hatteras Island Educational Programs (through November 11)
The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse – Lighting the Way for Over 150 Years
- Dates: Monday-Friday from 11-11:30 a.m.
- Location: Meet at the Hatteras Island Visitor Center Pavilion
- Details: Discuss the details and history of this beautiful sentinel and learn about current restoration efforts.
Totally Turtles
- Dates: Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3 p.m.
- Location: Meet at the Hatteras Island Visitor Center Pavilion
- Details: Learn about sea turtles through interactive games and activities for all ages.
Also, through November 11, the base of the Ocracoke Lighthouse will be open Thursday-Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and the Ocracoke Island Discovery Center is open Thursday-Saturday from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
