New beach access parking area being built between Avon and Salvo
The Cape Hatteras National Seashore (CHNS) is creating a new beach access parking area on the oceanside of N.C. Highway 12 in between Avon and Salvo, per a recent update from Mike Barber, Cape Hatteras National Seashore Public Affairs Specialist.
The parking area, which is in the process of being cleared, is situated in between ORV Ramps 27 and 30, and will provide access to the adjacent oceanside beach. The eventual site will be an unpaved parking lot that will be able to accommodate roughly 15 vehicles, per Barber.
Once complete, the lot will be the 16th parking area available for public use within the Cape Hatters National Seashore on Hatteras Island. For a complete list of parking areas and ORV ramps, including current beach conditions, see the CHNS website at https://www.nps.gov/caha/planyourvisit/conditions.htm.
What’s with the constant need to turn the place into the “Jersey Shore?” It’s already gotten bad enough.
Right!!! So glad they cleared more vegetation so there is another over wash area. Great idea.
I hope the orv permits funds did not pay for this ???
Great. Thanks for giving us more access to the beach.
