New donor fund established by Outer Banks Forever with goal to raise $10K on Giving Tuesday
The official nonprofit that supports the three national parks on the Outer Banks announced a new fund has been created to help address immediate needs and longer-term challenges in a sustainable way.
“Our Outer Banks national parks are special places that bring our local community and visitors together to learn, reflect, and create new memories year after year,” said Outer Banks Forever Director Jessica Barnes in an email to supporters on Giving Tuesday.
“As an Outer Banks enthusiast, you know how important Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, and Wright Brothers National Memorial are to our community and beyond,” Barnes said.
“We are here to help connect you to meaningful ways you can support our parks as they confront challenges like adapting to a changing coastline, preserving the many historic structures they manage, and working through budget and staffing challenges at a time when our parks continue to see high levels of visitors,” Barnes said.
The Parks Forever Fund has been established, with a goal of raising $10,000 on Giving Tuesday, and has already seen a kick start for its launch.
“The first $2,000 we raise today will be matched thanks to generous gifts from our friends at Kitty Hawk Rotary and a few anonymous donors,” Barnes said. “That means your gift doubles in impact!”
Barnes said the gifts will support a number of initiatives, including:
- Education and preservation through internships that engage our next generation in protecting our parks and the stories they tell, increasing our parks’ capacity to provide amazing experiences for you and your loved ones.
- Restoration and conservation of our unique barrier islands through much-needed invasive plant species removal.
- Enhancing the park visitor experience by funding projects that address the needs of visitors of all ages and abilities, so everyone can learn about and enjoy the rich history and beauty of these places.
“We know how much you love the Outer Banks, and that you have special memories of your time in our parks,” Barnes said. “We hope you will continue your impact on these special places and leave a legacy in the Outer Banks by making a gift today to our Parks Forever Fund.”
“We truly can’t thank you enough for being a part of our Outer Banks Forever community and for supporting our Outer Banks national parks,” Barnes said.
