ORV routes in front of villages reopen Oct. 15, and other National Seashore updates for the week of Oct. 8
The Cape Hatteras National Seashore (CHNS) announced several recent updates and news items related to recreational activities and seashore conditions on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands.
News items and events related to the National Seashore for the week of October 8 include the following:
Seashore Updates
- Two acts of vandalism at the Ocracoke Light Station were recently discovered by Seashore Rangers. The Seashore is seeking tips from the public to help catch those responsible for the vandalism. Click here for more information.
- The remainder of seasonal off-road vehicle routes, (or ORV routes in front of the villages), re-open next Thursday, October 15. The routes can be accessed via ramps 23, 34, 38, 49, 55, and 68. Go to http://go.nps.gov/beachaccess for updated beach access information.
- The public comment period is open for the Seashore’s Sediment Management Framework draft Environmental Impact Statement. Deadline to submit comments is November 2, 2020.
- The Seashore recently announced four storm-recovery projects. They are scheduled to begin over the next month.
