Vehicle catches fire at ORV Ramp 38 near Avon
On Friday morning, Cape Hatteras National Seashore law enforcement rangers and the Avon Volunteer Fire Department responded to a significant off-road vehicle (ORV) fire near the exit to Ramp 38, located just south of Avon, North Carolina. No injuries were reported in the incident, and the fire was successfully extinguished.
“The Seashore strongly recommends that tire pressure be lowered to at least 20 psi before driving on designated ORV routes in order to decrease stress on vehicles and help maintain travel conditions for other drivers,” stated David Hallac, superintendent, National Parks of Eastern North Carolina. “Fortunately, passengers in this destroyed vehicle smelled smoke and quickly got out before sustaining serious injuries.”
