Strong Winds and Rough Seas Expected Over the Weekend
A slow moving and deep low pressure system offshore will produce a prolonged period of gusty northwest to north winds late this week and through the weekend, per the U.S. National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.
Soundside flooding throughout Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands and ocean overwash, mainly north of Cape Hatteras, will be possible through the weekend. The duration and strength of NW/N/NE winds will ultimately determine if or when coastal flooding could become an issue for soundside portions of the Outer Banks.
As of Wednesday morning, wind guests of 40-45 mph and seas up to 10-17 feet are forecast. The strong winds will develop by early Friday morning, and will continue into Sunday.
