Local group puts out emergency appeal for help on Bonner Bridge project
Beth Midgett, chairwoman of the Dare County Citizen’s Action Committee to Replace the Bonner Bridge, has issued an emergency appeal for help to Hatteras residents, off-island property owners, and friends of the island.
Midgett says the committee needs immediate action – within 24 hours – to stop an e-mail campaign from Defenders of Wildlife to protest the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s plan to replace the temporary bridge over Pea Island Inlet with a permanent bridge.
The plan is Phase II a of the Bonner Bridge replacement project, which Defenders is also suing to stop.
NCDOT comments on the project are due tomorrow – March 29.
Midgett is asking all who can to send their own comments to counter the comments from members of DOW, a large environmental group with members all over the county.
And she is asking folks to share the urgent appeal on their Facebook page or to share it with all on their e-mail lists.
