CHEC plans brief power
outage early Tuesday morning
The Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative plans a brief power outage overnight — at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday morning, June 17 — while the company is energizing a new transmission line in Mirlo Beach.
The outage is planned for the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton.
There will also be a brief interruption of power at the conclusion of the work, which is expected to last throughout the night.
CHEC says that during the time of the work on the new lines at Mirlo, the island will be served by limited diesel generators.
“Please make efforts to conserve energy by turning your air conditioners to the highest comfortable setting before going to bed,” the company said in a news release.
“If the load exceeds the capacity of the generators, you will experience more extended outages,” CHEC noted.
If for any reason, your electric power does not return following the planned maintenance, call 866-511-9862.
