to energize new line last night
The Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative said this morning that it was not able to energize the new transmission line at Mirlo Beach last night as planned.
“Unfortunately, the load never subsided to a level (17 MW or less) where the diesel plants could carry both Hatteras and Ocracoke islands,” the company said in a news release.
“At 2 a.m., the load was still over 20 MW and with the work expected to take four hours, we called it off.”
CHEC said it would continue to look for windows of opportunity while its contract crews are here finishing their work. However, the company added that with the summer demand for power, it is likely that energizing the line will have to wait until the fall.
“Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation as we work to improve the electric infrastructure on Hatteras Island,” the company said.
