Coast Guard medevacs boater
near Oregon Inlet…WITH VIDEO
The Coast Guard medevaced a recreational boater Saturday who suffered a laceration near Oregon Inlet.
Dare County Emergency Services contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders at approximately 3:08 p.m. to report the owner of a 22-foot power boat suffered a laceration on his leg near the Bonner Bridge and was in need of medical assistance.
Sector watchstanders launched a 24-foot Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water crew from Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City to assist.
The small boat crew and a good Samaritan arrived on scene at approximately 4 p.m. and attempted to tow the vessel into deeper water in order to transfer the injured man. However, the helicopter crew arrived on the scene at approximately 4:05 p.m. and hoisted him aboard.
The injured man was flown to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City and transferred to personnel there at approximately 5 p.m.
