State coastal agency seeking public comments on beach erosion study
The state Division of Coastal Management is seeking public comments on a legislatively required study of beach erosion.
The 2015 Appropriations Act, Session Law 2015-241, requires the division to study and develop a proposed strategy for preventing, mitigating and remediating the effects of beach erosion in North Carolina. The study must consider efforts by other states and countries to prevent beach erosion and ocean overwash and to renourish and sustain beaches and coastlines. A study report is due to the General Assembly by Feb. 15, 2016.
Members of the public are invited to submit written comments to be included in an appendix to the report.
Comments must be written, and may be either general or specific. Comments should be submitted to Tancred Miller at the N.C. Division of Coastal Management by email at Tancred.Miller@ncdenr.gov or by mail at 400 Commerce Ave., Morehead City, N.C., 28557. The deadline for submitting comments is Dec. 31.
Because the timeframe for the study is short, the division will not be able to make a draft report available for public comment, but will include all comments received as an appendix to the final report.
