Buxton VFD’s Jeffrey Del Monte named Deputy Chief of Duck Fire Department

On April 3, the Town of Duck announced the appointment of Jeffrey Del Monte as Deputy Chief of the Duck Fire Department.
Del Monte, who has served as Acting Deputy Chief since January 2025, was sworn into his new role during the Town Council Meeting on April 2, 2025. A dedicated fire service professional, Del Monte’s career spans over two decades of service and leadership.
His journey into the fire service began in October 1997 when he joined the Buxton Volunteer Fire Department, where he continues to volunteer as Deputy Chief. Committed to his profession, he attended the Regional Fire and Rescue Academy at Wilson Community College in February 2001 to further his skills and training.
Del Monte officially began his firefighting career in April 2001 with the Town of Kill Devil Hills Fire Department. Seeking to serve both his profession and his country, he took on contract work in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving as a contract firefighter from January 2008 to August 2009. Upon his return, Del Monte joined the Duck Fire Department as a shift lieutenant in September 2009, playing a key role in the department’s transition to full-time staffing. His dedication and leadership led to his promotion to captain in 2012.
He has also served as President of the Dare County Association of Fire Officers, an organization committed to advancing fire protection and prevention throughout Dare County.
Outside of his professional commitments, Del Monte is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, and surfing. He resides in Hatteras, NC, with his wife, Erin, and daughter, Emma. The Town of Duck is proud to recognize Deputy Chief Del Monte’s contributions and leadership within the fire service and looks forward to his continued dedication in his new role.
