Coastal Flood Advisory in effect from 7:00 p.m. Friday until 8:00 a.m. Saturday
A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 7:00 p.m. on Friday until 8:00 a.m. on Saturday for soundside areas of Hatteras Island from Rodanthe to Hatteras village, per a Friday morning update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
Up to one to two feet of inundation above ground level is expected in very low-lying areas adjacent to the Pamlico Sound, with the greatest inundation forecast from Avon to Frisco. Elevated water levels are also possible for Ocracoke, with inundation of mainly one foot or less possible.
Gale Warnings have been issued for all of the coastal waters and the Pamlico Sound for Friday afternoon into Saturday. Gusty NW winds over 20 mph are expected to peak around sunrise on Saturday, then become WNW as they gradually diminish through Saturday night in response to a building high pressure.
Some roads and low-lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes adjacent to the waterfront may experience shallow flooding. If travel is required, the public is advised to allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth, and take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
