Cold front could bring soundside flooding, strong winds, heavy rainfall
A strong cold front is expected to bring gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and possible soundside coastal flooding later this week, per a Tuesday morning update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
The cold front will impact the Outer Banks area Thursday into Friday. Strong winds with maximum gusts up to 47 mph will arrive ahead of the cold front, and heavy showers and thunderstorms could bring damaging wind gusts.
Additionally, soundside coastal flooding is possible, mainly north of Cape Hatteras.
The bulk of the precipitation is expected to occur Thursday into very early Friday, and a fairly long duration of gusty southwest winds is expected for the latter part of the week.
