Debris Removal Underway in Hatteras Village; Will Proceed North Towards Frisco Next
This morning, the Dare County Board of Commissioners approved activation of a debris removal contract with Southern Disaster Recovery for areas in unincorporated Dare County.
Debris removal began today in Hatteras Village and Martin’s Point. By now, residents and property owners in unincorporated Dare County should have all storm related debris placed in front of their properties in the right of way. One pass will be made in each neighborhood or village.
Debris removal on Hatteras Island will proceed north towards Frisco once Hatteras Village is completed.
Updates for removal in other areas of unincorporated Dare County will be released as schedules are finalized.
Storm-related debris should be placed into 4 SEPARATE PILES in front of your property in the right-of-way at least 30 feet from fire hydrants.

Vegetative Debris (limbs, leaves, branches, sea grass, etc.) DO NOT BAG!

Construction and Demolition Materials (building materials, insulation, cardboard, concrete, shingles, etc.)

Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics (oil, bleach toilet cleaner, televisions, computers, etc.)
*Large items such as cars, boats, trailers, and campers will be not be accepted and must be disposed of by the owner.
Debris taken to the Dare County Transfer Station in Buxton or Manns Harbor by commercial haulers will be charged the regular rate of $65 per ton. The first 500 pounds for residential customers is free with the remaining weight prorated at $65 per ton.
