High school sports, out of country travel suspended for Dare County Schools
Per a recent announcement from Dare County Schools Superintendent John Farrelly, athletic activities and out-of-country travel have been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure to protect against potential impacts of the Coronavirus.
The Board of Directors of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association moved to suspend interscholastic athletics beginning at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020 through Monday, April 6, 2020. This includes all workouts, skill development, practices, and contests, and the NCHSAA Board of Directors will assess this situation regularly over the next few weeks and proceed accordingly.
Dare County Schools is also suspending all out-of-county travel indefinitely. This includes all field trips, meetings, and professional development events.
“Thank you for your support of our efforts to be proactive in mitigating potential impacts in our communities,” stated the update from Superintendent John Farrelly. “We are going to release a COVID-19 resource and support site on our district website tomorrow morning via email.”
As of Friday morning, there have been no reports of Coronavirus in Dare County and the Outer Banks.
