High surf, coastal flooding and snow possible with approaching storm
Confidence is increasing that a coastal storm could impact the Outer Banks and eastern North Carolina at week’s end, with the potential for coastal flooding and possible snow accumulations inland, per a Tuesday morning update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
Uncertainty is high regarding the extent and magnitude of any potential snowfall at this time, but at least light accumulations look possible from late Thursday night into Friday morning for mainland N.C.
In addition to snowfall, strong winds will lead to potential minor coastal flooding along the southern Pamlico Sound, as well as high surf north of Hatteras.
As of Tuesday morning, the storm is forecast to impact the Outer Banks area beginning Wednesday night or Thursday, with high winds and potential impacts possible through Friday. More details on the storm and the upcoming forecast are expected by Tuesday evening.
