N.C. Highway 12 reopened between Rodanthe and Oregon Inlet after brief closure
UPDATE: N.C. Highway 12 has now REOPENED to traffic between Oregon Inlet and Rodanthe. Please drive carefully. Per a Saturday night update, NCDOT crews will be back after first light on Sunday to patch up any issues from Sunday morning’s high tide, which is at roughly 5:30 a.m.
Per a Saturday evening update from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), due to ocean overwash caused by the recent high tide, (and specifically in the Mirlo Beach area), N.C. Highway 12 is once again closed between Oregon Inlet and Rodanthe.
NCDOT currently has crews on the scene, and will post updates as soon as they are available. Minor oceanside flooding was also reported in northern Buxton as of Saturday evening, and travelers are urged to use caution while diving throughout the island.
NCDOT will continue to post updates on their social media pages at https://www.facebook.com/NCDOTNC12 and https://twitter.com/NCDOT_NC12, as well as on their travel information website at https://tims.ncdot.gov/tims/RegionSummary.aspx?co=28.
Over wash, necessary for the health of this island and it’s inhabitants. Let it flow.
