Non-Resident Property Owners Prohibited on the Outer Banks Beginning Friday, March 20 at 10 p.m.
The Dare County Control Group met Friday evening, March 20, 2020 to receive an update regarding COVID-19 and to discuss additional restrictions necessary to protect the public health and safety for the community.
As part of Dare County’s continued response to the COVID-19 pandemic, non-resident property owners will be prohibited from entering Dare County beginning tonight, Friday, March 20 at 10 p.m.
The intent of this declaration is to decrease the risk of exposure and limit the spread of COVID-19 in Dare County by eliminating non-essential travel, thereby reducing the number of individuals in the county and ultimately reducing potential virus spread and the burden on our healthcare system. It is imperative to take measures to mitigate the consequences of COVID-19 and not overwhelm our healthcare system so it can care for those who are at most risk and continue to provide routine medical and emergency services.
Previous restrictions including the prohibition of mass gatherings and the entry of visitors remain in place.
While disappointing for many people who enjoy spending time on the Outer Banks, these decisions are made in the interest of preserving the public health, safety and welfare of our community.
So will I be given a tax credit or water usage credit if I can’t use my property that I am required to pay property tax on and carry insurance, pay for cable and internet, electricity? I understand not allowing renters to occupy, and understand the health concerns. Those of us property owners that want to escape areas where the virus is located and are virus free, would like a safe location as well, this is why we invested our hard earned savings. Doesn’t seem very well thought out and could have given us more time than a couple hours after the control group met.
👍
Virus aside, Why do you want to come here and poison us with your mentality. Your immoral feel of entitlement is what is fueling much of the destruction here.
We do not anyone that does not live here. Just like your neighborhood feels.
It’s actually your mentality, or lack thereof, is what poisons our country. I bet you look at an Asian person and tell them to go home. I have zero sense of entitlement and look to always help my community. When I come to my home I bring my own food and supplies. I don’t hoard anything at my current location because I am always prepared. Your short minded attitude and entitlement is not the American spirit.
It may be your house but It’s not your home. Doesn’t matter what a person is, at this time we want none of you. Why would you want to come here and potentially contaminate us, that sounds like an American.
Wow, the positive side of the OBX is all the permanent residents I’ve met and are now life long friends, so am happy to never meet small minded people like you. Your prejudice is what is infectious.
Maybe the Outer Banks should remained closed for the next year to two years until a vaccine is found. Unfortunately, residents who have no regard for what the tourist industry brings to Dare County’s economy can then sink into bankruptcy. The entire island can go under and the residents can enjoy their own self imposed destruction!
Must be a millennial yankee with that sense of entitlement
Again, your lack of mentality is striking. I am actually a 6 war Veteran that was based at Ft. Bragg that fell in love with the Carolina coast and the people. I’m from the west coast beaches where we welcome everyone. I’m actually in my 50’s, and currently am employed helping people around the world, unlike you who probably stands knee deep in the water with a beer can in his hand and paints tiger stripes on his truck because it looks cool. I accept your ignorance and small mindedness. I actually support small businesses when I come to the OBX.
I am a small business and I do not drink at all, or do queer things to my car for looks.
Good for you, and good to know you are a small business, too bad for you that your representation of a small business owner doesn’t reflect the majority in the OBX businesses who respect those of us that spend our money there. Stay healthy both physically and economically. Small business owner as well.
Hey Buddy:
Assuming you are real, give me the name of your business so I can tell everyone to avoid an absolute nut like you. What a hateful response.
I understand why Dare has chosen to put safeguards in place for citizens .
I am one of the property owners who are impacted by this pandemic. We love most of the people on the Banks as much as those in our local community. Most are very honest and kind people who have endured many disasters. We spend a lot of money and pay taxes. I do not mind supporting deserving locals that are just trying to make a living.
You sir should be ashamed. We are not yankee or rednecks we are Americans.
Better too late than never.
Willing to meet up and discuss with you anytime when I am “allowed” to come back to your precious area. I guess you felt intimidated because I worked my butt off and saved to buy a place where I could meet great people and eventually retire, but I guess that wouldn’t meet your qualifications. Enjoy that beer and weed!
If this were your home it would be different. Now you want to come here to drink beer and smoke weed? I do neither.
Nor do I, stay healthy friend!
Alex, there is no reasoning with Buddy; best to just leave him alone and let him go along his lonely way…
Alex, It seems that Buddy is the only person on this great news site that has the time to get on here and say negative things about people and News articles. Let him be miserable and hide behind his computer screen. I wish you luck with your property on the Island. Hopefully this will all end soon.
Buddy needs to put down the torch and pitchfork. They make him look stupid.
Guess you all have not realized there is a pandemic and no one here wants folks to bring it in from out of state.
So, check the news, understand what is going on and you will understand where I am coming from.
You folks are mad at me because you are being denied the option of possibly contaminating a new location. Educate yourselves..
Oh but they want our tax dollars. They want us to buy second homes there and pay property taxes, but it is perfectly fine to deny us access to our OWN property. Sounds like a violation of our “property rights.” To me, it’s like they have seized the property and denied us rightful access, I wonder if you could make an argument that it is in violation of the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution that states that a “person may not be deprived of property by the government without “due process of law,” or fair procedures.” Yes, I believe everyone on the Outer Banks should be safe, but no one is coming there to “infect” anyone. We will keep a social distance from our OWN homes.
Buddy, we are all more educated than you seem to be, why would you automatically assume any of us would want to bring a virus to the OBX? Can you guarantee that a resident going off the island to Virginia or parts of NC to shop at Costco or BJ’s to buy food supplies that are in short supply at the beach, to not be exposed and then bring it back to the island? Prove you can guarantee that can’t happen. Your argument continues to be ill-informed. As stated above, we understand the concept of social distancing in our own homes and are responsible adults that can make informed decisions. You would be better off agreeing you should just stop digging yourself into the “can’t stop stupid” hole and concentrate on hoping your business survives along with everyone else’s. We support small business when we come to our homes, but you Sir are jeopardizing yours by your continued ignorant claims.
I agree with Alex Sims!
The ignorance is appalling
Self realization is the first step to fixing the problem. I’m proud that you are starting to realize that Mr.Russell. Maybe there is hope.
