Outer Banks vacation-themed television channel OBXVacay launches on Roku, Amazon FireTV
OBXVacay, a new television channel featuring locally-produced programming about the Outer Banks of North Carolina, is now available nationally as a free app on the Roku and Amazon FireTV platforms.
Currently, Roku and Amazon Fire TV-connected internet platforms represent nearly 70% of all the video streaming consumed in the US. Roku reported 63.1 million active monthly users in the United States as of the second quarter of 2022.
The Outer Banks is known for having America’s best beaches, unique events and attractions, one-of-a-kind history experiences, world-class fishing and ecotourism opportunities, and amazing dining that is highlighted by locally-resourced seafood, all along 100-plus miles of ocean and sound front.
Hearkening back to “Beach TV”, a cable access channel that ran in the 1990s and included programming just as unique as the Outer Banks, OBXVacay takes viewers on a 24 hours-a-day, all-encompassing journey along the chain of peninsulas and islands and into the surrounding areas of northeastern North Carolina.
Locally produced by East Carolina Television, Inc. founded by Rick Loesch, principal in East Carolina Radio, Inc. OBXVacay is also available along the Outer Banks using an over-the-air antenna on channel 26 (W26EY).
“We have taken the popular Beach TV concept and added expanded program offerings with a much larger reach and audience potential,” said Loesch. “The idea is to make OBXVacay available everywhere, anytime on any device.”
Programming on OBXVacay includes classic episodes of Ken Mann’s “My Heart Will Always Be In Carolina”, unique perspectives from local independent video producers like Wes Snyder Photography and more.
Content also comes from the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, Currituck County Department of Travel and Tourism, National Park Service, North Carolina Aquarium, Kitty Hawk Kites, among others.
“It was tough to keep this secret for months as it was being developed,” said Mann. “I always appreciate every opportunity to share the stories about this place that we call home.”
OBXVacay also offers important news and information to viewers when they are planning a trip, during their stay, or even when they want to take a virtual getaway to the Outer Banks on their smart television or mobile device.
