8:00 a.m. UPDATE: All Hatteras-Ocracoke Island ferry operations have resumed as of Thursday morning, March 6.
Note that some sand and standing water may remain on N.C. Highway 12 on northern Ocracoke Island as of Thursday morning, due to minor ocean overwash that occurred overnight.
The highway has been cleared as of 8:00 a.m., however, travelers are advised to go slow and use caution in case of additional overwash with Thursday’s high tide at approximately 12:30 p.m.

The Ocracoke-Swan Quarter and Ocracoke-Cedar Island ferry operations have been suspended as of Wednesday morning due to adverse weather conditions, while the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry is running on a limited schedule, per an update from the North Carolina Ferry System.
Normal ferry operations for all three routes will resume once weather conditions improve.
