Severe weather, ocean overwash possible on Thursday and Friday
A complex low pressure system will impact the eastern N.C. area on Thursday and Friday, bringing the potential for severe storms, minor beach erosion, and localized ocean overwash, per a recent update from the National Weather Service.
Severe thunderstorms are possible along the Outer Banks Thursday night into Friday morning. Damaging wind gusts, a few tornadoes, and locally heavy rainfall are also possible.
In addition, there is also the potential for rough surf, minor beach erosion, and localized ocean overwash for the Outer Banks, and particularly north of Cape Hatteras, from Thursday night until Friday.
A high risk of rip currents is in effect for all beaches north of Cape Point on Wednesday, while a moderate risk of rip currents is in effect for southern Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island. A Small Craft Advisory is also in effect for the Pamlico Sound on Wednesday morning, due to northwest winds of 20 to 25 knots, with gusts up to 30 knots, and rough waters.
