Severe weather possible through Thursday
Severe weather is possible for the Outer Banks from Tuesday through Thursday this week, per an update from the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport / Morehead City office.
There is a minor risk for severe weather on Tuesday night, again late Wednesday night, and a slight risk on Thursday afternoon and evening as a series of rapidly-moving weather systems cross the area. The main threats will be damaging wind gusts, large hail, and the possibility of an isolated tornado. There is still uncertainty on the timing and location of the threats across North Carolina, and these outlooks likely will be adjusted in later forecasts.
A Gale Warning is also in effect from 12:00 a.m. until 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday for the Pamlico Sound, due to 20 to 30 kt winds with gusts up to 35 kt, and very rough waters expected.
