Strong cold front will bring high winds, severe weather to the Outer Banks on Sunday
A strong cold front will move through the Outer Banks region on Sunday or Sunday night, bringing high winds, heavy rains, possible thunderstorms, minor coastal impacts, and dangerous marine conditions, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.
High winds with gusts up to 45-55 mph will occur Sunday through Sunday night, and minor coastal impacts – including soundside flooding north of Hatteras and oceanside flooding from Cape Lookout to Cape Hatteras in Buxton – are possible. Scattered thunderstorms may lead to higher wind gusts in some areas.
Heavy rains, (with 1.5-2 inches of total rainfall), are also forecast for Sunday, and dangerous marine conditions are expected. Mariners should consider altering weekend plans to avoid possible hazardous conditions.
