Wet and Windy Weather Forecast for the Week; Coastal Flooding Possible Thursday
Wet and rainy weather is expected across the Outer Banks area through early Thursday, and a coastal storm bringing strong winds and possible coastal flooding is also forecast for Wednesday night and Thursday, per a recent update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City Office.
There is increasing confidence that an area of low pressure will develop off the N.C. coast late Wednesday night and deepen rapidly well off the coast on Thursday. The main impacts will be widespread rain and a possible mix of snow starting on Wednesday night, and strong winds from Thursday through Thursday night, with northerly wind gusts of 35-45 MPH possible.
The strong winds could potentially produce minor coastal flooding from Buxton to Ocracoke Island along the Pamlico Sound into Thursday night, with water level rises of 1 to 2 feet above ground forecast.
Periods of rain and fog are currently forecast for the rest of Monday and into Tuesday, with the possibility of a few thunderstorms as well, especially on Tuesday.
