Woman dies after being run over by fire department truck in Rodanthe on Saturday afternoon
UPDATE: A report from WAVY-TV has identified the woman in Saturday’s incident as Martha “Mike” Demontpellier, a former teacher and school administrator from the Norfolk, V.A. area.
The Dare County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 70-year-old woman who was run over by a Chicamacomico Fire Department pickup truck in Rodanthe on Saturday afternoon.
Authorities with the sheriff’s office and the National Park Service were called to the area of Corbina Drive about 2:30 p.m. for a CPR in progress in Rodanthe.
When they arrived they found that a 70-year-old female had been run over by a Chicamacomico Fire Department pickup truck, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
She was pronounced deceased at the scene by Dare County EMS.
“The truck was exiting the beach using the access at the end of the road when the accident occurred,” the release said.
