Outer Banks clinic in Avon will cease Saturday hours
Outer Banks Family Medicine in Avon has decided to cease providing Saturday hours.
The clinic is open from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and has also been open from 9 until noon on Saturday morning
“Outer Banks Family Medicine in Avon is committed to providing high quality health care to the residents and visitors of Hatteras Island,” according to a press release from Outer Banks Hospital. “The clinic has recently made the decision to reallocate physician time to provide additional appointments during the week, Monday-Friday.”
The clinic was seeing, on average, only about four to six patients on Saturday morning, according to Amy Montgomery, senior administrator for operations at the hospital. She said it made more sense to add the hours of the three physicians at the clinic back into the weekdays.
The change will be effective on Feb. 1.
The clinic and one of its three physicians — Drs. J. Al Hodges, T. Bentley Crabtree, and Jamie Fountain — will remain on call overnight and throughout the weekend.
Patients who call the clinic after hours will have access to a triage nurse who will provide help over the phone or connect them with the local physician on-call. This information is shared with the patient’s physician in case follow-up is needed.

The clinic’s physicians are currently taking new patients and same-day appointments for minor illness and injury are typically available.
