Dare Community Housing Task Force releases 2024 report with research, findings, and recommendations
The Dare Community Housing Task Force met on December 16, and voted unanimously to adopt a final report documenting their research, findings and recommendations. The final report includes statistical information on home values and local salary information as well as a set of recommendations that the group will focus on in 2025.
Following the vote on the final report, Dare Community Housing Task Force Chair Donna Creef thanked local elected officials and stakeholder members for their participation and support since the formation of the task force.
The task force includes 28 members, with representatives from all local governments, the Dare County Board of Education, the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, Outer Banks Health, the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS®, Outer Banks Homebuilders, the Outer Banks Hotel/Motel Association, the Outer Banks Restaurant Association and the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce, as well as five citizen members.
Bob Woodard, chairman of the Dare County County Board of Commissioners, established the Dare County Housing Task Force in January 2024 and in April 2024 suggested that the task force transition to being community led.
“I am extremely proud of the work that this task force has accomplished in a relatively short period of time. All members rolled up their sleeves and went to work, serving on subcommittees and reporting back at the group’s monthly meetings,” said Woodard. “They have brought forward specific recommendations that will enable the local governments and other stakeholders to begin tackling the housing challenge that is critical to our future.”
The final report will be presented to local governments and stakeholder groups represented on the Dare Community Housing Task Force in January and February 2025.
