Early Voting Begins Today in Dare County

One-stop absentee voting, more commonly known as “early voting,” began on Wednesday, October 17, in Dare County. Early voting allows residents to vote at any county precinct, and also to register to vote if they have not already done so, before casting their vote in the same trip.

During the early voting period, any registered voter can cast an absentee ballot in person on select days prior to Election Day. Unlike on Election Day, when registered voters can only vote at their specific precinct, early voting allows members of the community to vote at any of the three one-stop absentee voting site in the county. One-stop sites will have all the ballot styles for a given election at each site.

During One-Stop Early Voting, voters may update their address and change vital information in an existing registration record, but are not allowed to change their party affiliation.

Dare County residents who are not already registered can also register to vote, and vote in the same day at One-Stop Early Voting, as long as they will be:

•    18 years old by Election Day
•    Have lived in Dare County for at least 30 days
•    Can provide proof of identity and residence.

On Hatteras Island, the early voting site has changed from the main Fessenden Center to the Fessenden Center Annex, which is located at 47017 Buxton Back Road in Buxton.

Additional county sites for early voting include the following:

•    Dare County Administration Building located at 954 Marshall C. Collins Drive, Manteo, NC 27954
•    Kill Devil Hills Town Hall located at 102 Town Hall Drive, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948

Ocracoke Island
