Weekly CHNS Update From Ranger Karol Jones
It was a safe and successful July 4. Thanks to all for patience in fireworks traffic and allowing pedestrians to exit first.
The first turtle nest is expected to hatch in the next 5-10 days. Thanks to all volunteers assisting with nest sitting. Select nests will have ORV and pedestrian corridors in front of nests to allow for beach access, if there is no alternative. The areas will be signed with yellow and black arrows pointing toward the open corridor. Pedestrians may walk in front of all nests.
If you are planning to visit the new sandbar off the tip of Cape Point, please be safe and mindful of currents and tides. Multiple rescues have been made in the area. We recommend traveling via kayaks or paddleboards.
There has been an increase in beach fires not being extinguished completely and made outside of designated beach fire areas. Reminder that from May 1-Nov 15, beach fires are allowed from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the ocean beaches in front of the Villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Frisco, and Hatteras.
